The Environmental Department set up a display booth at the Annual FIGR Picnic and staff were on hand to talk with Tribal members about the many different programs we have to offer.  It was a great opportunity to show members who are not familiar with our program the many resources we have to offer.

In addition to highlighting the work that the department has done:
  • Mapping the Tribe’s ancestral territory,
  • Carrying out environmental education workshops and fieldtrips, and
  • Developing the library collection for members to use.

We had information for parents on the many health risks to children associated with lead poisoning, and we had coloring pictures, contests, stickers and other handouts that Eric has been developing so that kids can more easily understand the threats from lead poison.

Our display also featured information about a workshop series that the Tribe has been developing based around local, organic gardening.  Learning environmentally sound gardening techniques that produce chemical free, high nutrient produce can not only be a great way to spend time outdoors, but it can also be an empowering opportunity to save and even earn money.
