Traditional Environmental Knowledge

In 2007 from April through October, a group of interested Tribal members signed up and participated in a unique workshop series entitled. "Traditional Environmental Knowledge" which has an acronym of TEK. There were three. three-day workshops focusing on a range of issues related to ecology. To give you and idea of the material covered during the workshop sessions, consider the following titles of each of the workshops::

1. "The Ecological Foundations of Traditional Environmental Knowledge"

2. "Material Culture: Plant Resources and Traditional Environmental Knowledge"

3. "Using Traditional Environmental Knowledge to Restore the Landscape"

Since completion of the workshop series. the group has stayed connected andhas begun the work necessary to take the program to the next stages.

The group has planned and organized two "community walks" at local restoration sites in which the Tribe is a partner. Each "community walk" will be open to all Tribal members and their familiess to attend. They are tentatively scheduled for February 9th at Tolay Park, and February 16th at the Laguna de Santa Rosa.

In addition to the planned "community walks," other activities have been discussed for participants to take part in as a group. Group participants and Tribal community member overwhelmingly feel that this program should be repeated next year and be made available to all Tribal members who did not have the opportunity to participate in 2007.
